A local gas station owner was arrested last week on charges he extorted and held one of his employees captive.
Huseyien Ender, 50, of Palisades Park, was the subject of a “lengthy intensive investigation” by Paramus police after they were tipped off that he was threatening to harm an employee at the Route 4 Sunoco station he owned, according to Lt. John Scully.
Over several months, Ender allegedly demanded money, jewelry and other valuables from the victim, Scully said. On one occasion, he is accused of following through on the threat by locking the employee in the gas station’s basement.
When police arrested Ender on Nov. 15, they recovered a “substantial amount of currency, jewelry, and other possessions belonging to the victim”, according to Scully. Several firearms were also recovered, he said.
Ender is charged with extortion, criminal restraint and making terroristic threats. He is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail as he awaits an appearance in court.
